Foreigners in Laos need not request visa extension until April 20

Vientiane (VNA) - The Consul Office at the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos announcedon April 9 that all foreigners living in Laos, including Vietnamese, donot have to request a visa extension if their Lao visa expires. The decision iseffective until April 20.

Head of the Office Nguyen DuyQuan said this is the latest announcement from the Immigration Department at theLao Ministry of Security, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Those whose visas expire before April 20 will not be subject to fines, Quan said, adding that after the date, the Immigration Department will announce whether the new regulation willremain in place or be removed.

He recommended Vietnamesecitizens visit the Immigration Department in Vientiane or immigration offices incities and provinces if they wish to extend their stay./.
