HCM City (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen ThienNhan has asked the municipal authorities to offer more financial assistance andnew policies for the press for continued communications, especially to promote the NationalAssembly’s Resolution No. 54 to pilot a special mechanism and policy for HCMCity’s development.
At a forum on journalism and publishing on June19 to mark the 93rd Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Nhan said the press, including printnewspapers, television channels, radio stations, and online newssites, should suggest solutions, not just offer criticism, for the city’sdevelopment.
Journalists should observe, analyse, and seeksolutions to the city’s shortcomings from people, experts and scientists, hesaid.
The press should also continue strengthen thefight against bureaucracy, corruption, waste, and social evils, Nhan added.
They should commend outstanding individuals whodo good things to inspire the public, he said, adding that the city plans toset up a press centre and meet journalists periodically to exchange informationabout the city’s issues.
Than Thi Thu, Head of the municipal PartyCommittee’s Information and Education Board, said the press should encourageinnovation and creativity among all local residents.
The city’s agencies should also improveawareness about the role of the press and provide information for sufficientand timely communication for residents to have a better understanding andsupport for the Party’s resolutions and the National AssemblyResolution’s No 54, she added.-VNA
