Gathering celebrates 70 years of Vietnam-Poland diplomatic ties
A gathering was held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 6 to mark 70 years of Vietnam-Poland diplomatic ties (February 4) and the 30th founding anniversary of the city’s Vietnam-Poland Friendship Association (June 26).

HCM City (VNA) – A gathering was held in Ho ChiMinh City on November 6 to mark 70 years of Vietnam-Poland diplomatic ties(February 4) and the 30th founding anniversary of the city’s Vietnam-PolandFriendship Association (June 26).
Chairman of the association Nguyen Dang Cuongsaid Poland was one of the first countries to recognise and set up diplomaticrelations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republicof Vietnam. It continually supported Vietnam during the two resistance wars andthe following national construction.
In recent years, bilateral connections have beenincreasingly enhanced via mutual visits by their leaders and cooperation programmesin economy, culture, education, and people-to-people diplomacy, according tohim.
Cuong also took this occasion to thank formerleaders of the friendship association and the Polish Embassy in Vietnam forhelping the organisation fulfil its role as a bridge linking people of HCM Cityand Poland so as to contribute to the two countries’ ties.
Polish Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel expressed hisdelight at the strides in the nations’ traditional friendship, noting that theyhave developed their friendship and cooperation on the basis ofgovernment-to-government links, the Vietnamese people who used to study andwork in Poland, and the Vietnamese community in his homeland.
Congratulating the Vietnam-Poland FriendshipAssociation of HCM City on its founding anniversary, he voiced his hope thatthose who used to study and work in Poland will continue helping with bilateralfriendship and cooperation.
Poland is currently the largest trade partner ofVietnam in Central and Eastern Europe with bilateral trade topping 3 billionUSD in 2019. Vietnam mainly exports electronic products, leather footwear,apparel, and farm produce to Poland.
In addition, the two sides hold potential forcooperation in the areas Poland has strength in like software development, informationtechnology, heavy industry, and agricultural equipment./.
LOTUS, a health care centre set up under Vietnam-Poland cooperative efforts, is assisting Vietnamese people in the European country in handling testing procedures for COVID-19, free of charge.
Nghia affirmed that this is a milestone of special significance, affirming and honouring the the Vietnamese revolutionary press’s glorious tradition of 100 years of serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, serving the Fatherland, and serving the people.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
