Gathering held in HCM City to mark Cuba’s 63rd National Day

HCM City (VNA) –The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) held a gatheringon January 5 in celebration of the 63rd National Day of Cuba (January1, 1959 - 2022).
Truong Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association in HCM City, said the Vietnam - Cuba relationship is a special and rare of its kind inthe world’s contemporary history.
For the last more than 50years, the faithful and close-knit ties between the two fraternal countries,one in the Western Hemisphere and the other in the Eastern, have remained strong andprofound. Their traditional solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperationhave continually been solidified and developed in all fields.
In 2021, Cuba providedmedical supplies and vaccine, shared experience, and transferred technology to helpVietnam weather serious impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. For its past, Vietnamhas strived to promote bilateral trade and investment links, especially inhealth care and biotechnology, to assist Cuba in addressing economic difficulties,she noted.

This year, HUFO and theVietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of HCM City will work with the CubanConsulate General in the city to organise many friendship activities and stepup partnerships in economy, health care, and education.
Ariadne Feo Labrada, arepresentative of the Cuban Consulate General, described 2021 as a successfulyear of the countries’ relations as seen in the strong development of bilateralties in all aspects, especially since the fruitful visit to Cuba by PresidentNguyen Xuan Phuc in September, during which the two sides reaffirmed the continuedenhancement of the solidarity, mutual support, and all-round cooperationbetween the two Parties, States, and peoples.
The Latin American nationwill always exert efforts to reinforce the political, economic, investmentties, as well as the solidarity and friendship between the Cuban and Vietnamesepeople, she remarked.
She also took this occasion tothank HCM City and southern localities of Vietnam to support the Consulate Generaland people of Cuba in Vietnam./.
Leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) held talks on November 23 evening to discuss ways to tighten friendship between the two agencies in particular and between Vietnam and Cuba in general.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
