German-funded project helps conserve underground water in Vietnam
The Prime Minister has agreed an investment plan for a project to intensify the protection of underground water in Vietnam, phase II, using non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) of the German government.
Hanoi (VNA) - The Prime Minister hasagreed an investment plan for a project to intensify the protection ofunderground water in Vietnam, phase II, using non-refundable officialdevelopment assistance (ODA) of the German government.
The project aims to ensure the effective andsustainable exploitation of underground water resources amidst climate change,and prevent water level decrease, saltwater intrusion and depression due to theexploitation of underground water in Mekong Delta provinces.
Its outcomes are expected to help enhancewater resource management capacity in the localities, build a database ofunderground water in targeted areas and use the database in water resourcemanagement and policymaking.
The project also hopes to raise publicawareness and strengthen coordination between specialised agencies, watermanagers and users in underground water conservation, while enhancing investigation,assessment, protection and management capacity of agencies involved in theproject.
The project will be rolled out nationwide infour years, from 2018, with funding of more than 2.4 million USD.-VNA
