Gifts presented to impoverished children in Binh Dinh province

As many as 50 bicycles and 50 gifts worth 90 million VND (4,190 USD) were presented to disadvantaged students in the central province of Binh Dinh during the Life’s Journey programme held in the locality on June 23.

The programme was jointly organised by the National Fund forVietnamese Children (NFVC), the provincial Department of Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs and AIA Vietnam Life Insurance Co., Ltd. Italso featured a bicycle-ride to raise funds, a writing competition onstudent dreams, children’s rights popularisation and an environmentalprotection campaign.

Over 200,000 students drop out of schoolevery year, Deputy General of the NFVC Le Tuyet Mai said, adding thatone of the main reasons is that they have to walk too far to get to thenearest school, especially for students living in remote areas.

To overcome this obstacle, the programme awarded 770 bikes valued atover 1.3 billion VND (60,500 USD) to underprivileged students in 23cities and provinces nationwide last year.

Thisyear, “Life’s Journey” will bring an additional 1,000 bicycles tostudents in need in 25 localities across the country.-VNA
