Government to allocate 1 trillion VND to flood-hit localities
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to provide 1 trillion VND (44 million USD) for localities affected by typhoon Damrey that hit south central provinces early this month.

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to provide 1 trillion VND (44 million USD) forlocalities affected by typhoon Damrey that hit south central provinces earlythis month.
The PM’s decision was announced on November 30 during his trip to the south centralprovinces of Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen, which have suffered devastatingconsequences of the storm.
Of the sum, Phu Yen will receive 170 billion VND (7.48 million USD) while KhanhHoa will get 260 billion VND (11.44 million USD). At the same time, eachlocality will be supported with 1,000 tonnes of rice.
At a working session with leaders of the two provinces in Khanh Hoa province’sNha Trang city the same day, PM Phuc stressed that there is no absolutely safearea in the context of climate change, urging the local Party Committees andauthorities to pay attention to raising public awareness of flood prevention.
He underlined the need for the two localities to consider overcoming stormconsequences an important political task, aiming to ensure normal life ofpeople as well as production activities, especially industrial and agriculturalproduction.
Specific action programmes should be rolled out by each sector and locality tosupport flood-hit residents, the PM said.
He asked the two provinces to scale up vigilance and firmly request residentsliving in natural disaster-prone areas to evacuate to safer places, avoidinghuman losses.
Apart from dealing with consequences of downpours and floods, Khanh Hoa andprovinces should heed socio-economic development, PM Phuc said.
The leader also assigned tasks to Military Zone 5, the ministries ofAgriculture and Rural Development, Industry and Trade, Finance, and Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs, and the State Bank of Vietnam, asking them tojoint these efforts.
Typhoon Damrey, the 12th storm in the East Sea so far this year, caused theworst damage to Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen.
The disaster left 45 people dead and 229 others injured in Khanh Hoa, destroyedhundreds of thousands of houses and 36,300ha of crops, killed 370,000 heads ofcattle and poultry, and washed away and damaged aquaculture facilities. Totaleconomic loss suffered by the province amounted to 14.7 trillion VND (646.8million USD).
Meanwhile, Phu Yen province burdened damage worth nearly 3.5 trillion VND (154million USD). -VNA
The Japanese government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), donated 105 water filtering systems to help residents in central Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces cope with aftermath of flooding.
