Hanoi (VNA) – Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) stressed the significance of the great national solidarity to developing the community, while attending the 4th World Conference of OV in Hanoi on August 22.

They highlighted the community’s situation in several countries, evaluated the advantages and disadvantages in carrying out the work to promote the great national solidarity, and proposed measures to handle the challenges the community is facing.

According to Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese community in Russia Tran Phu Thuan, solidarity has been the core, a source of strength, and a motive for the OVs to overcome difficulties.

Together with upholding solidarity, it is necessary to consolidate legal basis and economic foundation for, and protect the legitimate rights of the OVs, he stressed, describing them as a solid support for their integration into as well as stable and long-term stability in the host nations.

Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese in Thailand Nguyen Ngoc Thin held that the association has promoted communications work to raise the OVs’ awareness of the Party’s policies, and the State’s regulations on the great national solidarity.

He suggested the Government make adjustments to its policies to attract more OVs to return and contribute to the homeland, and continue arranging Vietnamese language teaching classes.

The OVs also put forth several specific measures, and orientations to raise their awareness of the importance of preserving the Vietnamese culture and language.

Tran Hong Van, an OV in Australia, underscored that protecting the mother tongue is significant to the Vietnamese in the homeland, and those in the host nations, elaborating it is a bridge to connect the communities.

She said the ambassadors of the Vietnamese language should work to shape up a network to share experience and materials for the language teaching.

Many OVs asked for financial support so that they could develop and organise quality and regular cultural programmes. They also suggested enhancing online Vietnamese language teaching, completing policies to encourage the teaching, and building libraries to introduce Vietnamese books and culture in foreign nations.

🦩 Besides, the Government’s project to honour the Vietnamese language among the OVs should be further promoted to encourage more people to join, they added./.
