Guatemalan President lauds VN’s development

Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom Caballeros has praised Vietnam’s development model as an example for developing countries, especially its policy of combing economic growth and social progress.

Atthe recent reception for Vietnamese Ambassador to Guatemala Le ThanhTung in Guatemala City, President Caballeros thanked the Vietnamesegovernment for having voted Guatemala as a non-permanent member of theUnited Nations Security Council for the 2012-2013 term. He said he hopes Vietnam and Guatemala will further strengthen friendly and cooperative ties in future.
On the occasion, Caballeros asked the ambassador to convey his bestwishes to Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and invited Sang toattend a power handover ceremony in the country on January 14, 2012.
Ambassador Tung affirmed that Vietnam is willing to work closely withGuatemala at international forums, especially at the United Nations, aswell as boost cooperation among the Association of Southeast AsianNations and the Central American Integration System (SICA). At the meeting with officials of the Government and the ruling PatrioticParty of Guatemala, the two sides discussed measures to strengthen andfurther expand multifaceted cooperation in the near future through theexchanges of delegations and the promotion of negotiations towardssigning bilateral cooperation agreements in some areas./.
