Hai Phong voters concerned about problems facing national economy
Voters in the northern port city of Hai Phong expressed their concern about problems facing the national economy, particularly the negative impacts by the world economy, during their meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the delegation of National Assembly deputies of Hai Phong on May 10.

Hai Phong (VNA) – Votersin the northern port city of Hai Phong expressed their concern about problemsfacing the national economy, particularly the negative impacts by the worldeconomy, during their meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and thedelegation of National Assembly deputies of Hai Phong on May 10.
The voters also complained aboutthe slow pace in changing the growth model and the big dependence on agricultureand the State-owned sector.
Many voters took the occasion ofthe meeting to voice their opinions about the administrative reform and the buildingof an effective State apparatus. They urged the National Assembly and theGovernment to instruct ministries, agencies and local administrations to takestronger and synchronous measures for the sustainable and faster development ofagriculture and rural areas.
Taking note of the voters’petitions and wishes, PM Phuc said the opinions reflect the voters’ sense ofresponsibility for working together with the administration for nationaldevelopment.
He appreciated Hai Phong’s higheconomic growth in 2018, estimated at 16.25 percent, which is the highest rateever and more than 2.4 times the national average, adding that many large-scaleprojects are being implemented in the city, proving that it is attractive toinvestors.
The PM asked Hai Phong to investmore in infrastructure in Kien Thuy district to facilitate local growth, whilesuggesting the district to improve local labourers’ skills and productivity. Healso required the locality to use land more effectively and pay attention totourism services to make the best use of local advantages.
PM Phuc reported that the fightagainst corruption has been intensified under the leadership of the PartyGeneral Secretary and President Nguyen Phuc Trong, thus winning trust of thepeople.
The Government leader, along with other NA deputies, is holding meetingswith voters to report on the planned working agenda of the 7th session of the 14th National Assembly and listen to voters’ opinionson issues of their concern.-VNA
As the largest sea port in Vietnam’s northern region, Hai Phong city boasts huge potential for maritime economic development, especially sea and island tourism.
With 64.48 points, the northern port city of Hai Phong has slipped seven positions to 16th out of 63 localities nationwide in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2018.
After two years of operation, a modern way station on Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway has become an intimate venue for drivers and passengers on this route.

While praising the efforts of ministries, sectors, and localities in tackling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeiting, and intellectual property violations, PM Chinh acknowledged that in some places and at certain times, there has been lax enforcement and unclear jurisdiction, leading to increasingly complex developments in these issues.
At the working session, General Secretary Lam presented the Party Committee of the VFF and central mass organisations with the Politburo’s Decision No. 304-QD/TW, which outlines the new structure, functions and tasks of the VFF Central Committee, marking a significant step in improving its organisational effectiveness.
Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.
Cheng stressed that this is third time PM Chinh has attended the meeting and he is among the few senior government officials participating in this year's event, which is considered as a rare and commendable gesture.
The fact that the Vietnamese PM has been invited to attend and speak at this important event for three consecutive years reflects the WEF as well as the international business community's recognition and high regard for Vietnam's position, role, and contributions to global and regional economic growth.
This new era marks a crucial phase in which the country must strive with determination to fulfil its strategic objectives, achieving breakthrough development at new levels of sophistication, quality, and global standing, laying the foundation for further growth. Era after era forms a continuous history of development, ascending steadily from one level to the next.
The resolution on such mechanisms aims to serve as a legal basis for opportunely dealing with difficulties and hindrances caused by legal regulations in important, priority, and urgent areas that require immediate settlement so as to unlock resources, facilitate economic development, and turn legislation into a competitive edge.
PM Pham Minh Chinh instructed chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow the Ministry of Finance's guidelines on handling public finances and budgets, with a focus on preventing wastefulness, misconduct, or corruption.
Knapper reaffirmed the US's commitment to supporting a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam, while respecting each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and political systems.
Vietnam is deeply concerned about the escalating and complex conflict in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of civilians, as well as to regional and global peace and stability.
