Hanoi enlarges wastewater treatment plant

The Hanoi City People’s Committee has agreed to invest over 310 billion VND (14.5 million USD) in expanding the Ho Tay wastewater treatment plant, aiming to ensure environmental hygiene around the West Lake.

ThePhu Dien Construction Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company andSFC Vietnam Environment Investment and Development Joint Stock Companyare the investors under a build-transfer (BT) contract.

Theconstruction, scheduled to be carried out during the first and thirdquarters of this year, includes drains and pumping stations to collectwastewater.

The city asked the investors to implement the projectin line with Government and City regulations in construction managementand BT contracts.

The municipal Department of Planning andArchitecture was urged to perform procedures in accordance with thecity’s planning site as well as other plans related to the wastewatercollection area of the Ho Tay wastewater treatment plant.-VNA

ౠ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
