Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said on June 27 thatit will actively improve the tourist environment in the capital in thecoming time.
The department made the pledge at aJune 27 meeting on measures to implement its tasks in the last sixmonths of the year.
Recently, there are manycomplaints about environmental hygiene, vendors’ harassing andovercharging tourists in the city, making negative impacts on thecapital’s tourism. The ancient quarter, the area around Hoan KiemLake, Literature Temple, and the route surrounding West Lakeare “hot” spots.
The department said a touristsupport centre will be set up at No. 47 Hang Dau Street in theancient quarter in July to provide tourists with necessary informationand deal with complaints from tourists.
Besides, thedepartment will accelerate inspection of tourist service providers inthe city, aimed at finding wrongdoings and have measures to resolve.
Since the beginning of the year, around 8.33 million visitors havecome to Hanoi, up 9 percent against the same period last year,including 1.03 million international guests, up 15 percent. The numbersof tourists from Japan, the Republic of Korea , the US , Franceand Australia saw the strongest rises.
At themeeting, Deputy Director General of Vietnam National TourismAdministration Nguyen Manh Cuong handed over to the department acertificate recognising Hanoi as one of the 25 most favouritedestinations in Asia. The destinations were selected by readers of theworld’s biggest travel website TripAdvisor.-VNA
