Hanoi invites visitors to travel back in time

Inspired by the subsidy era (1976-1986) in the capital city, the "Truc Bach Night" programme will recreate the daily life of people during this historic period. For the first time in Hanoi, the entire event space will be designed like a movie set.

Hanoi (VNA) – A highlight for promoting Hanoi’s night tourism in the final month of this year will be the "Truc Bach Night" programme, to take place from November 29 to December 1, at the Truc Bach pedestrian street area in Ba Dinh District. The unique event will offer a glimpse into the way of life in the capital city's past, particularly the capital's traditional culture and cuisine from the subsidy period.

Gearing up for year-end peak season

Local authorities said they have sketched out detailed plans for the year-end peak season, with a special focus on night tours. Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Hong Minh said services and products are on tap in anticipation of the year-end influx of international visitors, coinciding with Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Post-pandemic challenges, including lack of workforce, prompted Hanoi to prioritise training in order to improve service quality, the official said. The city is also working with the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism to step up promotion campaigns abroad, including ones in the US, China, and Germany and some other European nations, he said. The department plans to connect businesses and collaborate with other localities to launch engaging activities that aims to attract visitors during the peak season, he said. It has also reviewed existing products and developed new tours, programmes, and policies. Notably, the "Hanoi Visitors Experience 4-5 Star Hotels" tour is a collaboration between hotels and businesses in the industry that includes travel agencies, airlines, and destinations. The tour aims to offer special deals, luring both locals and visitors to Hanoi's premium services at the best prices during the year-end period. Additionally, the department has partnered with businesses and destinations to offer a package of 16 exciting night tourism products.

During the “Truc Bach Night” programme, visitors will enjoy unique artistic performances, including plays and music shows themed around the subsidy era. They will also have the chance to sample subsidy-era-style cuisine while listening to captivating stories of Hanoi’s past, experiencing the reenactment of a wedding, and joining food and music festivals. There will be specially designed booths, featuring a sound and lighting system that enhances the atmosphere, providing visitors with a more immersive experience in what subsidy-era facilities looked like.

Mini museum showcasing Hanoi culture

The highlight of the programme is the "Hanoi Street Museum" on Train Line 6, featuring a range of interactive community activities with different themes across the four carriages of the train. Each of the train cars focus on a unique culinary theme representing Hanoi and Vietnam as well. In this format, the carriages will serve as a mini-museum showcasing the culture and cuisine of Hanoi. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in activities such as roasting coffee beans over a wood fire, making coffee-scented sachets, crafting miniature food models, and making To He, a traditional toy made of rice powder.
On this occasion, the department will collaborate with the Ba Dinh district People's Committee to announce the decisions to recognise the Quan Thanh and Voi Phuc Temples, and Ngọc Island – Truc Bach as special national relic sites. In addition to ramping up promotion activities, local authorities have set the strategic goal of positioning Hanoi as a safe, high-quality destination both regionally and globally./.
