Hanoi Old Quarter cultural exchange centre opens

The Vietnamese capital inaugurated a centre dedicated to promoting the time-honoured culture of its Old Quarter on February 2 as part of activities to celebrate the 85th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The Hanoi Old QuarterCulture Exchange Centre, located at 50 Dao Duy Tu Street, Hoan Kiemdistrict, was opened on February 2 through collaboration between themunicipal government and France’s Toulouse city seeking to preserve theOld Quarter.

Covering an area of 458 square metres,the three-floor centre will be a venue for exhibitions, workshops,cultural and art activities, as well as introducing the history,heritage value, and traditional craft villages of the Old Quarter to thepublic.

The same day, a photo exhibition titled“Hanoi, then and now” opened with 60 pieces featuring the Hanoi OldQuarter and its daily life from 1890 to 1940.

The event will last through February 15.

An exhibition on the history of the Old Quarter in Vietnamese, English and French is slated for early May.-VNA

꧃ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
