Hanoi seeks Amsterdam’s cooperation in environment, climate change
Hanoi wishes to receive Amsterdam city’s assistance in building an environment monitoring system, clean energies and sharing of experience in climate change adaptation.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi wishes to receive Amsterdam city’s assistance in building ꦗan environment monitoring system, clean energies and sharing of experience in climate change adaptation, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.
Chung made the statement at his reception in Hanoi on March 24 for Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Nienke Trooster, who handed over a letter of the Amsterdam Mayor to him.
The Ambassador also delivered the Amsterdam Mayor’s wishes to bolster cooperation between the two cities in numerous fields, particularly urban and water resources management.
According to Nienke Trooster, Hanoi and Amsterdam hold great cooperation potential in fresh water supply, wastewater treatment, urban planning and climate change response, following contents of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between them.
The two sides implemented a project on improving the To Lich river and a research on underground water for local residents. Amsterdam has also supported Hanoi in lighting the Hang Dau water tower, built during the French domination, since 2015.
However, these collaboration activities have yet to meet potential of the bilateral relations, she said.
Chung told the guest that in its development plan for 2016-2020, Hanoi still has various areas that can be joined by Amsterdam.
The two sides should expand projects related to the environment, wastewater treatment, urban landscape improvement, culture and education, he added.-VNA
Hanoi is willing to facilitate firms from the Netherlands to do business, especially in planning, water supply, waste treatment, climate change, and education-training, said the city’s senior official.
Hanoi and Amsterdam city of the Netherlands have agreed to foster collaboration in various fields such as water supply and drainage , waste treatment, urban planning, and smart city development.
The Party chief attributed the achievements in the first half to the continuous, direct, and comprehensive leadership of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, and the close and effective coordination of relevant ministries, sectors and localities.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the VPA’s General Staff and Deputy Minister of National Defence reaffirmed Vietnam’s unwavering gratitude for Cuba’s invaluable support during its struggle for independence and nation-building efforts, and pledged to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Cuba as it navigates current challenges.
Vietnam is a country with which Russia shares a special relationship. In the 1950s and 60s, particularly during Vietnam’s struggle for independence, the two countries forged a deep bond. Since the Strategic Partnership was established in 2020, Vietnam and New Zealand have witnessed steady growth in the relations. Beyond the remarkable 40% increase in bilateral trade over five years, political relations and multilateral interactions, particularly within the CPTPP framework, have remained highly positive.
Known as the “four pillars for Vietnam’s ascend”, the Pobiburo's Resolutions 57, 59, 66, and 68 focus on cultivating a robust national entrepreneurial spirit, unlocking resources for innovation across society, and accelerating the development of digital economy, knowledge-based economy, green economy, and circular economy, propelling Vietnam forward rapidly and firmly on the path of modernisation and international integration.
Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang cleared up deputies' concern regarding how to spur socio-economic growth, renew traditional growth motives and establish new momentum for development.
