Hanoi sees 8 percent rise in visitors

Hanoi has welcomed approximately 12 million visitors since the beginning of2017, up 8 percent from the same period last year, and earned a revenue of morethan 35.2 trillion VND (1.55 billion USD), up 13 percent.

According to themunicipal Department of Tourism, the city’s international arrivals rose by 14percent to over 2.3 million.

The capital city hastaken a set of measures to be named among the world’s top tourist destinations.

It has focused on developing new high-quality tourism products and acceleratingtourism promotion campaigns. It has also worked to improve local infrastructurefor tourism and involve the private sector in investing in the tourismindustry.

However, there arevery few large recreation areas and resorts for weekend getaway in the city thatare attractive enough to make the tourists stay longer and spend more. Inaddition, a majority of local travel agencies are small businesses that haveyet to establish international reputation. Service quality and environmentalissues also remained as big challenges.

To attract moreholiday makers, Hanoi plans to increase cooperation with businesses andlocalities across the country as well as those from overseas and providetraining for service providers and those working for tourism authority at alllevels, particularly in terms of communications skills.

It will also sendinter-sectoral teams to inspect tourism activities in the city and strictlyhandle violations.

Hanoi is among the top 10 destinations in the 2017 Summer Travel Trendsselected by Airbnb, a US-based accommodation sharing application.

Airbnb said Hanoi isattractive to holiday-makers as its boasts historical relic sites and specialcuisine.

This year, the cityaims to welcome 23.61 million travellers, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent.-VNA
