Hanoi starts building smart city

Hanoi (VNA) – A smart city projectworth more than 4 billion USD invested by the Sumitomo – BRG joint venture isexpected to commence in Hanoi in the first quarter of 2018.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee NguyenDuc Chung hosted a reception for Chief Executive Officer and President ofSumitomo Corporation Kuniharu Nakamura and President of the BRG Group NguyenThi Nga in the capital on December 7 to discuss the project slated for outlyingDong Anh district.

Nakamura said his company is calling onprestigious partners specialised in science and technology to join the project,which aims to build a smart city with a modern transport system.

Nga revealed that the smart city project withtotal investment of 4.138 billion USD will cover 272 hectares. It consists offive phases. In the first phase, the joint venture will invest more than onebillion USD on to build infrastructure. 

In December, the joint venture will submit anadjustment plan to the municipal People’s Committee, she said.

Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said local authoritieswill create the most best conditions for the investor to carry out the project.

He proposed the Japanese firm – which hasinvestment in industrial parks in Hanoi and elsehwere in Vietnam – call onJapanese small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in high technology to investin Hanoi.

Earlier within the framework of Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Japan on June 5, 2017, the Nhat Tan-Noi Bai urbandevelopment cooperation project was signed between Hanoi People’s Committee andSumitomo Group.

With the goal of building the most modern smartcity in Southeast Asia, the project will be carried out in the north of Hanoi.The BRG Group will make a detailed plan for the project on an area of 2,080hectares along Nhat Tan-Noi Bai route.-VNA
