Hanoi to host exhibition on Belgian cartoon

An exhibition entitled Martine, a Friend from Europe opens in Hanoi on December 12, on the occasion of publishing the comic series Martin (20 episodes) in Vietnamese.
An exhibition entitled Martine, a Friend from Europe opens in Hanoion December 12, on the occasion of publishing the comic series Martin(20 episodes) in Vietnamese.

The exhibition aims to present toVietnamese readers, young and adult, a well-known European cartoonseries that narrates the beautiful adventures in the daily life of a10-year-old perfect girl named Martine, who is often accompanied by herclose friends, the dog Patapouf and the cat Moustache. The series evokespure emotions among readers and invites them to discover the beautifulnature in the countryside.

Since the creation of the comiccharacter Martine in 1954 by Belgians Gilbert Delahaye and MarcelMarlier, the series has been cherished by several generations of girlsand boys worldwide. It has been translated into more than 30 languagesand illustrated with beautiful images. More than 100 million copies ofthe cartoon series have been sold globally, which is unprecedented inthe world of children’s literature.

Martine has different namesin different countries where the series has been published, includingAnita, Tiny and Maja, as well as Zana, Debbie and Aysegul, besidesMarika. In Vietnam, she is known as Martin.

The 10-dayexhibition, organised by the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Vietnamand Kim Dong Publishing House, will run till December 22, at ExhibitionHouse, 93 Dinh Tien Hoang street, Hanoi.-VNA
