Throughout 2024, Hanoi's tourism industry has been on a steady upward trajectory, attracting 19 million visitors between January and August, a 12.3% year-over-year increase. With upcoming holidays and festive seasons, this positive trend shows no signs of slowing down. Its tourism revenue has also soared, reaching over 73.2 trillion VND (nearly 3 billion USD) during the period, marking an annual 19.2% rise.
This growth is underpinned by increased hotel occupancy rates, a broader range of accommodation options, and a diverse array of attractions and activities. Hanoi now offers 71,246 rooms across 3,760 accommodation establishments, catering to both domestic and foreign tourists with its extensive network of shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. To capitalise on this momentum, Hanoi is launching a series of events and initiatives. The Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival 2024 and the Hanoi Gift Festival 2024 are just around the corner, along with a renewed focus on sports tourism and cultural and historical tourism products.
Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Department of Tourism, unveiled these plans, underlining the city's commitment to enhancing its tourism offerings. One of the key initiatives is the development of a pilot model for agricultural and rural tourism, aimed at promoting community-based tourism experiences and showcasing the traditional values of ethnic minority groups. In a recent conference with tourism companies, the department discussed strategies to further stimulate the sector. Plans include digitising information about tourism destinations and facilities, promoting Hanoi as a premier destination, and attracting more investment in the sector./.
