HCM City (VNA) - A gala New Year concert highlighting excerpts from famous operas willbe held at the HCM City Opera House on January 8. The concert will openwith Franz von Suppé’s Overture from the opera LightCavalry, and Georges Bizet’s March and Chorus and Habanera fromthe opera Carmen. Excerpts from GiuseppeVerdi’s Nabucco, Aida and La Traviata,Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot and Charles Gounod’s Romeoand Juliette will be featured as well. The night will alsoinclude excerpts from Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana,Mikhail Glinka’s Ivan Susanin, and Richard Warner’s Lohengrin. The performance willfeature South Korean soprano Cho Hae Ryong, soprano Pham Duyen Huyen , tenorPham Trang and soprano Pham Khanh Ngoc, runner-up at the 2016 InternationalVocal Competition SLO-ASEAN in Singapore. They will perform alongwith the HCM City Opera Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) symphony orchestraunder the baton of conductor Le Phi Phi, who has achieved great success aroundthe world. After graduating fromMoscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music in 1993, Phi has worked as theresident conductor of the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra since 2000. He has been guestconductor of several orchestras, and conducted hundreds of performances in manycountries, including Macedonia, Russia, France and Germany. French artist Sylvain Streiff, Canadian guitarist Alex Formosa and Vietnamese pianist Phúc Phan teamed up for a đàn bầu (monochord) concert in Hanoi recently.
Vietjet will bring the legendary Danish band Michael Learns to Rock and iconic band of the Republic of Korea Wonder Girls to Vietnam for the region’s largest musical concert, “SKY CONNECTION.”
