HCM City (VNA) – H൲o Chi Minh City is aiming to recycle solid waste sustainably, heard a workshop in 💖the city on August 9.
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Thi Thanh My said the amount of solid waste in the city had increased from 6,400 tonnes a day in 2011 to more than 7,500 tonnes a day in 2015.
Solid waste is forecast to reach 12,000 tonnes per day by 2020.
Sandhya Babel from the Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology under Thammasat University shared Thailand ’s experience in solid waste treatment such as increasing the use of organic products, encouraging private organisations to invest in clean technology, and creating environmentally-friendly products.
Experts suggested building stores for people to exchange recyclable waste and transforming waste into resources such as compost or electricity.
According to the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the city’s Da Phuoc solid waste treatment complex is able to receive and handle 5,000 tonnes per day, while Vietstar and Tam Sinh Nghia factories treat 1,200 tonnes and 1,000 tonnes, respectively, every day.
From now to 2030, the city will strive to develop human resources in the field and apply new technology to build an effective waste management system.-VNA
