HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City is adjusting its industrialdevelopment strategy until 2020, including removing zoning plans for delayedindustrial parks and downsizing the scale of industrial complexes in a bid tospeed up investment projects and lure more investment.

Earlier, the southern hub had zoned off 7,000 hectares for industrial parks and1,900 hectares for industrial complexes. However, 80 hectares of land inDistrict 9 set aside for Phu Huu Industrial Park were arranged for theconstruction of a residential area.

Planning schemes for three industrial parks - Xuan Thoi Thuong in Hoc Mondistrict and Phuoc Hiep and Bau Dung in Cu Chi district was also erased due toslow land clearance and compensation, affecting local livelihoods.

Meanwhile, Pham Van Hai Industrial Park will be constructed in an area of 768hectares in Binh Chanh district to ensure the city’s industrial land fund.

The Ministry of Construction asked the city to clarify the adjustment’s impactson urban planning and report specific industrial sectors in the Pham Van Hai IndustrialPark, thus recommending rational construction planning.

In addition, sizes of industrial parks and complexes were also scaled down. Thearea of the expanded Tay Bac Cu Chi (Northwest Cu Chi) Industrial Park will becut to 73 hectares from the planned area of 173 hectares.

Thecity also decided to slash the total number of 30 industrial complexes coveringan area of 1,900 hectares to six complexes with an area of 331 hectares.

An Ha and automobile mechanics complexes were shifted into industrial parks and22 complexes were scooped up from planning list to make room for otherprojects.

In a bid to lure more investments into the industrial parks, experts said that thecity should pay attention to developing traffic infrastructure, thereby helpinginvestors reduce transport costs and enhance competitiveness capacity.

As foreign businesses are holding 90 percent of the logistic market, it isvital for the city to invest in logistic service as well as arrange bondedwarehouses at industrial parks to reduce customs clearance time for imports andexports.-VNA
