Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese futsal goalkeeper Ho Van Y has been namedas one of the world’s 10 leading futsal goalkeepers in 2021 by FutsalPlanet.
Y ranked 10th in the list with a total of 21 votes. This marks the second yearin a row that the Vietnamese futsal goalkeeper has made the list compiled byFutsalPlanet which has been running since 2018, reported the Voice of Vietnam(VOV).
The 25-year-old man enjoyed a successful year with both his club side Thai SonNam and the Vietnamese national team.
Thai Son Nam won their 11th national championship last December, and Y wasvoted goalkeeper of the tournament.
He is the favourite for the 2021 Golden Ball statue given to the tournament’sbest futsal player, which will be announced next month. He also picked up theSilver Ball award in both 2018 and 2020.
This year also saw the talented goalkeeper join the national squad to competein the FIFA World Cup in Lithuania. The Quang Nam-born goalkeeper put in astring of amazing performances to help Vietnam advance to the last-eight and hewas one of the most impressive goalkeepers of the group stage.
First place in the list went to Thiago Mendes Rocha of Brazil with 299 votes.Elsewhere, second and third places went to Leonardo De Melo Vieira Leite“Higuita” of Kazkhstan and Nicolas Sarmiento of Argentina, respectively./.
Russian newspaper Championat has praised Vietnam’s solid defence and indomitability when playing Russian players at the knockout round of the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania.
Thai Son Nam has maintained the championship tittle of the Futsal HDBank National Championship for 12 years, after defeating Sahako 3-1 in the finals in Ho Chi Minh City on December 5.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
