Hue Festival 2018 features diverse art, culture

Nearly 1,300 domestic and foreign artists are brought together at the Hue Festival 2018, which is taking place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue from April 27 to May 2 to stage unique art performances representing the typical cultures of different regions in Vietnam and abroad.

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) –
Nearly 1,300domestic and foreign artists are brought together at the Hue Festival 2018,which is taking place in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue from April 27to May 2 to stage unique art performances representing the typical cultures ofdifferent regions in Vietnam and abroad.

A music show featuring “hat xam” (songs of astrolling blind musician), “hat cheo” (Vietnamese popular opera), “nha nhac” (Hueroyal court music) was held at Dien Tho Palace in the imperial city of Hue onApril 30, attracting a large crowd of people who love traditional melodies.

Considered a highlight of the Hue Festival 2018,“Van hien kinh ky” was a comprehensive art show which combines a varietyof elements: dance, chorus, animation, poem reciting and music. The 90-minuteshow featured all cultural values of Hue through heritage elements.

The same day, a cartoon exhibition of the FrenchNouvelle Aquitaine region displayed popular works by French artists, presentingvarious stories in three languages: French, English and Vietnamese.

Earlier on April 29, a programme titled “Am vongSong Huong” (Resonance of Perfume River) involved hundreds of professional andamateur actors and actresses, depicting the life cycle of people living on therivers from their marriage, giving birth and raising children to passing downtheir occupation from generation to generation in a joint effort to preserveHue cultural values.

A street festival is being held on main routesof Hue from April 28 to May 1 with the engagement of art troupes from Thailand,Japan, Poland, Mongolia, Slovakia, Belgium and Vietnam. 

Within the framework of the festival, visitorswere treated to art performances staged by the beatbox/acapella Berywam fromFrance, Urpin folk artists from Slovakia, Yaese lion dance troupe from Japan, singerNoa from Israel, Nematatlin musical band from Mexico and Pambil band fromColombia, among others.

🦄 Hue was the imperial capital of Vietnam for over 100 years. It is home to five heritages recognised by UNESCO, namelythe Hue ancient citadel relic complex – a World Cultural Heritage site; NhaNhac (Hue royal court music) - an intangible cultural heritage item; NguyenDynasty’s wood blocks – a documentary heritage item; Nguyen Dynasty’s Chau ban(royal administrative documents) – part of the Asia-Pacific Register ofUNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme; and literature on Hue royalarchitecture - a documentary heritage.

The Hue Festival,previously known as the France-Vietnam art festival, was first held in 2000 bythe French Embassy in Vietnam and the ancient city of Hue. This year’s eventcarries the theme “Cultural heritage with integration and development - Hue onedestination, five world heritages”.-VNA

🌃 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
