Hue’s Phung Tien palace undergoes restoration with Germany’s support
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided more than 112,500 EUR through the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam for the restoration of Phung Tien palace, part of the world heritage site Hue Citadel, in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has providedmore than 112,500 EUR through the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam for therestoration of Phung Tien palace, part of the world heritage site Hue Citadel,in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The project has a total cost of more than 143,000 EUR and the rest of which comesfrom the city’s corresponding fund.
Work on the restoration began on September 29 and is expected to complete inNovember, 2018.
Repairs will be made for the palace through fresco restoration technique- atechnique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid plaster.
Along with restoration work, the project also focuses on technicaltraining and preservation certificate granting for craftsmen from the HueMonuments Conservation Centre.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dung said thatfinancial support from Germany represents productive achievement in thecultural heritage cooperation between the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam and thelocality.
Constructed under the reign of King Minh Mang in the 19th century,Phung Tien is among the Nguyen dynasty’s five most important palaces. It wasused to worship the Nguyen Dynasty kings and their wives. The majority of thepalace has been ruined over the time, except for the foundation, gates and somestonework.-VNA
