India explores trade, tourism cooperation opportunities in Kien Giang

Kien Giang (VNA) - The Global Trade and Technology Council of India (GTTCI) on March 31 held a working session with authorities of Kien Giang to explore investment cooperation opportunities in the southern Vietnam province.

GTTCI Founder President Dr. Gaurav Gupta reaffirmed India’s interest in expanding bilateral trade and investment with Vietnam, focusing on tourism, commerce, infrastructure, and technology. He stressed the potential for deepening mutually beneficial partnerships between the two nations.

She called for more business exchanges to boost investment and trade ties while underscoring the importance of establishing direct flights between India and Phu Quoc to facilitate travel and economic collaboration.

Kien Giang is currently inviting investment in 55 major projects spanning urban development, high-tech and clean agriculture, clean and renewable energy, industrial zones and clusters, waste treatment, and logistics services. The province also seeks Indian expertise in digital transformation, IT application, and artificial intelligence (AI) training, she said.

According to Lua, with its rich maritime resources, diverse islands, Kien Giang is focusing on developing marine economy in combination with sustainable tourism expansion. As Vietnam’s top rice producer, it also boasts thriving aquaculture and fishing activities. The region’s modern transport infrastructure, particularly Phu Quoc International Airport with connections to over 10 international destinations, strengthens its global appeal.

In 2024, the province welcomed around 10 million visitors, including 1 million foreigners, with Phu Quoc emerging as a sought-after destination for Indian travelers, especially for luxury weddings and events./.
