Indian navy’s ship makes friendship visit to Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Destroyer INS Rana of the Indian navy with 360 officers and crewmembers on board under the command of Colonel Atul Deswal anchored at Sai GonPort in Ho Chi Minh City on September 27, beginning a four-day friendshipvisit.
Colonel Atul Deswal said thevisit is one of activities in the framework of defence cooperation betweenIndia and Vietnam. The two sides will take the occasion to exchange experiencein training, communications and operation.
The naval forces of Vietnam andIndia have worked together in many fields over the past years, particularly in training,ship maintenance, logistics and capacity building, thus helping bolster thefriendship between the two countries and contributing to security and stabilityin the region and the world.
At the welcome ceremony for the Indianship, Sen. Lieut. Col. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, deputy head of Brigade 125 under Naval Region 2, expressed his belief that the visit of the INS Rana will help strengthen theties between the two navies and the bilateral defence partnership.
During the stay in HCM City, theINS Rana crew will pay floral tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Monument, makecourtesy visits to the city’s People’s Committee and the High Command ofMilitary Zone 7, and hold professional and sport exchanges with their Vietnamesecounterparts.
They will also host a delegationof officials, border guard force, young people and the Indian community in HCM Cityfor a visit of the destroyer.
This is the second visit of theIndian navy to Vietnam. The first was made by three ships - the INS Sahyadri,the INS Shakti and the INS Kamorta, under the command of Rear Admiral DineshTripatyi to Tien Sa port in the central city of Da Nang in May this year.-VNA
Defence Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich held talks with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman in Hanoi on June 13 during the latter’s official visit to Vietnam from June 12-15.
There is plenty of room for expanding cooperation in science-technology, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchange between Vietnam and India, however the two sides should establish appropriate mechanisms to facilitate them, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 28.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
