More than 10,000 delegates from Asia, including shipowners, policymakers, investors, and technology experts, attended the Indonesia Maritime Expo, held as part of Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 on May 26-28.

Jakarta (VNA) - The Indonesia Maritime Expo, held as part of Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 on May 26-28, is the first large-scale maritime event in the country, aiming to affirm its role as a global maritime hub and promote the sustainable development of the region’s maritime industry.

More than 10,000 delegates from Asia, including shipowners, policymakers, investors, and technology experts, attended the event. It also featured over 100 exhibitors and 35 leading speakers in the maritime sector, along with major Indonesian organisations and agencies such as the state-owned port operation company Pelindo, the state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, and various industry associations, demonstrating Indonesia’s strong commitment to developing a modern and sustainable maritime industry.

The exhibition showcased the latest products, technologies, and solutions in the maritime sector, such as smart port and logistics digitisation technologies, green shipping and emission reduction solutions, as well as port infrastructure and maritime financing.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono stated that the nation’s future depends on effective maritime governance and transformation. This includes investment in port infrastructure, biodiversity protection, and training the next generation to become skilled maritime professionals.

Indonesia also places strong emphasis on enhancing cooperation with the international community to develop the maritime economy and ensure a safe, open, and sustainable ocean space.

Located at a strategic crossroads of major sea routes, the maritime sector is the backbone of Indonesia’s economy. With over 17,000 islands and the second-longest coastline in the world, Indonesia is also the world’s third-largest provider of sustainable resources and sustainable development for the shipping industry.

🏅 Indonesia’s maritime sector contributes 7% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and holds vast potential to drive the growth of the ASEAN maritime industry./.
