Jakarta (VNA) 🍷– The Chairmanof the Committee I of Indonesia’s House of Representatives, Abdul KharisAlmasyhari, on November 24 urged the ASEAN member countries to take a moreactive role in resolving conflicts and putting an end to violence againstRohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Thomas Vargas, Representative ofthe United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Indonesia, describedthe situation in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine State as worrisome and assured thatthe office would work with authorities to seek long-term solutions to the Rohingyaissue, reported Antara News. The same day, hundreds of Indonesiansgathered outside the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta to protest against violencecaused by division and religious conflicts between the Buddhist community andRohingya Muslims in Myanmar. The violence situation in Myanmarstarted in 2012, killing many people and forcing thousands of people to fleetheir country to be refugees in neighbouring countries. As of May 2015, Indonesia hasreceived over 13,800 refugees, including Rohingya people from Rakhine State,according to the representative of UNHCR in Indonesia.-VNA
