The information was revealed by the country’s Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan in Jakarta on January 18.
He said the new steps include a revision of the terrorism law that would give the country's security agencies the authority to conduct arrests on those suspected of launching terror attacks.
Minister Luhut said the government will ask parliament to revise the country's terrorism law and expects the changes to be completed this year.
The Indonesian government asked parliament to do so in 2001, but the bill was rejected by lawmakers amid concerns that the right to arrest and detain would be misused for political purposes.-VNA
