Indonesian director general of civil aviation Novie Riyantosaid the grounding was lifted for all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated bydomestic airlines in the country's airspace.

In March 2019, Indonesia issued the ban after the crash ofone of the aircraft on October 29, 2018 operated by domestic carrier Lion Air, killing all 189people on board.

Preliminary results of a related investigation indicatedthat a defect in the maneuvering characteristics augmentation system (MCAS)specifically designed for the 737 MAX series might be the cause of theaccident./.
