Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian police on November 25 launchedan electronic traffic ticketing system called the Electronic Traffic LawEnforcement (ETLE), a digital-based public service that will enable moretransparent law enforcement.

Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Police, Commissioner General Ari Donosaid the application of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) wouldmake people change their behavior when driving on the road.

Technology is increasingly sophisticatedand changing people’s behavior, especially if many surveillance cameras areinstalled in all corners of a city, he said.

The official further noted that Indonesia has notbeen left behind in launching the ELTE, given that Japan has operated a similarsystem since 2014 by installing surveillance cameras to detect everyvehicle. And only in 2018 did they begin trying to use this technology forface detection, he added.

Indonesia is going ahead to apply such system and ifthere are more “eyes” everywhere, people will be afraid of committingviolation, he said.

The Jakarta Regional Police aim to install 81surveillance cameras in order to implement the ELTE system in 2019. The cameraswith the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology will be installedat 25 intersections in the capital city of Jakarta.

With this technology, it would be easier for thepolice to detect traffic offender while, at the same time, the image could beused as evidence in court. Only three days after the violation takes place, theticket will be received by the owner of the vehicle through the Indonesian PostOffice services.

The owner has five days to clarify if he has committedthe violation and seven days to pay the ticket through several banks before thepolice revoke the registration number of the vehicle.

According to Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucracy Reform Syafruddin, Indonesia faces a challenge to improve public service in the era ofIndustry 4.0 and has the target in 2045 to become one of the world’s big fivecountries advanced in all aspects of life. –VNA
