Inspectorates of Vietnam, Laos work to advance ties

Hanoi (VNA) – InspectorGeneral of Vietnam’s Government Inspectorate Doan Hong Phong held talks with Presidentof the Lao State Inspection Authority Khamphan Phommaphat in Hanoi on June 1.
The two offices signeda new agreement to further enhance cooperation in inspection, settlement ofcomplaints and denunciations, and corruption fight.
Phong said the two sidesinked five cooperation deals between 1998 and 2016 under which they haveboosted partnerships through regular mutual visits, personnel training, andinformation and experience sharing, thus helping improve their staff’scapacity.
The agreement renewal toupgrade cooperation during the Lao delegation’s trip, which coincides with the60th anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic ties, is a memorablemilestone lifting the two agencies’ ties to a new level and contributing to theclose-knit relations between Vietnam and Laos.
Notably, this deal includesthe establishment of a mechanism for receiving and settling complaints filed byVietnamese and Lao people in each other’s countries, a step to realise thejoint statement issued during an official visit to Vietnam by Lao Party GeneralSecretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith in June 2021, according toPhong.
He expressed his hope thatthe two inspection bodies will keep coordinating to effectively carry out theagreement in the time ahead.
For his part, Phommaphat calledon the two sides to further strengthen multifaceted ties to help develop their relations,as well as their countries’ connections more strongly.
The Lao official added hehopes during the visit, the two sides will not only provide updates about theiractivities but also straightforwardly share experience in inspection,settlement of complaints and denunciations, and corruption combat in order tobetter their performance./.
A delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of the city’s Party Committee, paid courtesy visits to top leaders of Laos on May 26 during their working visit to the neighbouring country.
The Vietnam Consulate General in the Lao northern province of Luang Prabang and the local Laos – Vietnam Friendship Association have kicked off a host of events to mark the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
