Int’l maritime congress raises concern over East Sea issue

The fifth annual International Maritime Congress recently held in Poland raised concern over the complicated developments in the East Sea issue.

Brussels (VNA) – The fifth annual InternationalMaritime Congress recently held in Poland raised concern over the complicateddevelopments in the East Sea issue, saying that they are directly linked withChina’s maritime strategy.

Presided over by the Centre for Poland-Asia Studies andpartners, the event attracted more than 1,000 delegates, including representativesfrom authorities, scholars and businesses specialising in navigation fromEurope and other parts of the world.

They discussed four topics of transport, seaports andshipbuilding plants; maritime education and renovation; maritime law, financeand safety; seafood and ecology.

During the “Transport, seaports and shipbuilding plants”session, participants said militarisation in the East Sea is worrying, directlyhurting regional and global maritime security.

Several opinions analysed dangers in the East Sea,especially China’s militarisation of islands and shoals which has destroyed amass of natural coral reefs as well as its construction of artificialislands.-VNA
