Hanoi (VNA) – Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko arepaying a State visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5.
The visit, madeat the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse, is the first-evertrip to Vietnam by a Japanese Emperor and Empress.

Akihito came tothe throne on January 7, 1989, and is the 125th emperor of Japan.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations in September1973 and elevated their ties to the extensive strategic partnership forpeace and prosperity in Asia in March 2014.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong said thevisit will be an important landmark in Vietnamese-Japanese relations. Itis a manifestation of the development of bilateral ties and will bring therelationship to new heights. -VNA

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
