Japanese Katazome paintings displayed in HCM City

Over 30 paintings featuring the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam by Japanese artist Toba Mika, are being displayed at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City on November 22.
Over 30 paintingsfeaturing the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam by Japanese artist TobaMika, are being displayed at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City onNovember 22. Jointly organised by the Japanese ConsulateGeneral in the city and the municipal Fine Art Museum, theexhibition, which will run until December 15, is one of the manyactivities celebrating the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomaticties. Mika painted the works from memory, primarily using theKatazome dyeing technique, during the 20 years following her firstvisit to Vietnam.
Vietnam’s scenes and the local idyllic life are a recurrent theme in her artistic oeuvre.
Born in 1961 in Aichi prefecture, Toba Mika currently lectures at the Kyoto City University of Arts. Her contributions to promoting the Vietnam-Japan friendship have beenofficially acknowledged with a medal from Vietnam ’s Ministry ofCulture, Sports and Tourism./.
