HCM City(VNA) – The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Alliance always pays heedto boosting multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in climate changeadaptation, said special advisor of the group Takebe Tsutomu.

Takebe Tsutomu, who isformer minister of agro-forestry-fishery, made the statement at a meeting with Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Dinh La Thang inthe southern economic hub on March 14.

The parliamentarian group is studying a proposal on building a centre fornatural disasters prevention in cooperation with Vietnam, he added.

Appreciating supportfrom Ho Chi Minh City in organising Vietnam-Japan cultural festivals during thepast years, he asked local leaders to consider changing the time of the nextfestival in 2018 to the end of January, citing reasons of weather.

Agreeing with hisguest on altering the festival schedule, Thang stressed closer coordinationbetween the Vietnamese and Japanese sides is needed for a larger scale event nextyear to celebrate the 45 years of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Acknowledgingcontributions of Takebe Tsutomu to the establishment of the Vietnam-JapanUniversity, Thang noted that education cooperation could bring practical andlong-term benefits for both nations.

Chairman of the Nidec CorporationShigenobu Nagamori, another Japanese guest at the meeting, thanked themunicipal authorities for supporting the operation of the group in the city andpromised more investment to come.

The Japanese-basedmotor manufacturer has so far invested 1 billion USD in Vietnam and hired some20,000 local workers.

Shigenobu Nagamorirevealed the company’s plan of setting up research & development centres inVietnam and sending Vietnamese engineers and workers to Japan for training witha view to using them as managers of Nidec subsidiaries in Vietnam.

For his part, Thangstated the city always welcomes Japanese investors with favourable conditions andmutual benefits for all parties involved.

He said he expectsfurther investment and cooperation from Nidec in Ho Chi Minh City, contributingto the Vietnam – Japan strategic partnership.-VNA
