Hanoi (VNA) - Nearly 1,000athletes will compete at the National Junior Taekwondo Championship-CJ 2019 in LaoCai province.
The July 5-14 tournament will see players from 50 cities and provincescompeting for 112 sets of medals in both the kyorugi (combat) and poomsae(performance) events for age groups ranging from U12 to U20.
The competition is sponsored by the CJ Group from the Republic of Korea. Itcomprises numerous businesses in various industries of food and food service,pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, entertainment and media.
CJ pledged to support the tournament for three years from 2019 to 2021.
At the event, the Vietnam Federation of Taekwondo also signed a five-yearcooperation agreement with Vietnam Cable Television to widely promote Vietnam’staekwondo throughout the country with a view to push the development of themartial art. - VNA
Since its inception 72 years ago (1946-2018), the Vietnamese sport sector has done more than provide games for the nation to play by enhancing the country’s international integration efforts.
Traditional martial arts have been developing for centuries in Vietnam, with hundreds of styles nationwide, including Nam Hong Son, Tay Son Binh Dinh and Vovinam.
Vietnamese athletes won three medals, including one gold, one silver and one bronze, at the Roma 2019 World Taekwondo Grand Prix, which closed in Italy on June 9.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
