Khanh Hoa announces restoration of ancient Dien Khanh citadel

The Dien Khanh ancient citadel in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa is set for a facelift, with restoration and upgrade work scheduled to begin in September 2024, said Director of the provincial management board of development projects Nguyen Thanh Hien.

Khanh Hoa (VNA) – The Dien Khanh ancient citadel in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa is set for a facelift, with restoration and upgrade w💟ork scheduled to begin in September 2024, sa🍷id Director of the provincial management board of development projects Nguyen Thanh Hien.

The project, undertaken by the management board itself, will encompass site clearance and construction from 2024-2025. It aims to revitalise this historical landmark while preserving its cultural significance.
It is fully funded by the provincial budget, with a total cost exceeding 166 billion VND (6.91 million USD), including 70 billion VND for construction and over 67 billion VND for site clearance. Built in 1793 under the reign of King Gia Long (1762-1820), the citadel covers an area of 3.5 ha, with a wall length of 2,600m and a height of 3.5m. Serving as a political and administrative centre of Khanh Hoa from 1802 -1945, it was designated a national historic and cultural site in 1988. The restoration efforts will focus on repairing damaged sections, using traditional materials and methods to maintain the original architecture./.
