Kien Giang plans Cambodia sea route

A sea route taking tourists from the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang to Cambodia ’s Sihanoukville and Thailand will come into existence this year.

Speaking recently at a meetingwith representatives of Thailand ’s Trat and Chanthaburi provinces, LeMinh Hoang, director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports andTourism, said Kien Giang and Thailand had agreed on a sea route toCambodia .

Hoang said many foreign visitorstravelling to Thailand and Cambodia also want to go to Phu QuocIsland off Kien Giang province by the route.

It will take visitors around two and a half hours to go to Sihanoukville by boat from Phu Quoc and two more hours to Trat.

Kien Giang received nearly 5.6 million local and foreign visitors in2012, a year-on-year growth of 10 percent. It is expected to receivemore than 5.88 million this year.-VNA
