Kien Giang welcomes over 4.8 million visitors so far

The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang served over 4.8 million tourists in the first nine months of this year, a rise of 6.7 percent over the same period last year, including over 279,000 foreigners.

– The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giangserved over 4.8 million tourists in the first nine months of this year, a riseof 6.7 percent over the same period last year, including over 279,000foreigners.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, the sector earnedover 3.4 trillion VND (149.56 million USD) in the reviewed time, up 24.4percent year on year.

Phu Quoc island and Ha Tien were most popular destinations of KienGiang, which lured over 2.7 million and more than 1.5 million visitors,respectively.

In the rest of the year, Kien Giang hopes to draw more tourists thanksto its hosting of the Miss Grand International 2017 in Phu Quoc in November.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mai Van Huynh saidthat along with the success of the National Tourism Year 2016, the province haspromoted its tourism  through variouschannels, while investing in the sector to make it a spearhead one in 2020,with special focus on promoting infrastructure system.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, the province will concentrateon Ha Tien as the major tourism hub with close connection with Phu Quoc andother sites in the region.

Meanwhile, the province will also focus on developing strategic productswith higher quality of service, while strengthening the protection of the environmentand wastewater treatment to support tourism development.-VNA
