Long Bien Bridge clean-up event to be held this weekend

Hanoi (VNA) - The environmental group Keep Hanoi Clean (KHC), incollaboration with a Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, willhold a clean-up underneath Hanoi’s iconic Long Bien Bridge this weekend. 

As part of the EU Climate Diplomacy Week 2019, the event will be held from 8amto 11.30am, and from 2pm until 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday (October 12 and13). Volunteers over 16 years old are welcome to join the event.

Following its “green” theme, the organisers have alsoencouraged participants ride their bikes to the venue with the offer of prizesfor those who do. 

Participants will be offered a free vegan lunch.

KHC was founded in May 2016 by James Joseph Kendall — a long-termAmerican resident of Hanoi who was concerned about the levels of trash in andaround his neighbourhood. ⛎ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

ဣ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
