Low tropical pressure in East Sea strengthens into storm
A tropical depression in the northern part of the East Sea has strengthened into a typhoon, becoming the third one to hit the region this year, announced the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on July 31.

Hanoi (VNA) – A tropicaldepression in the northern part of the East Sea has strengthened into a typhoon,becoming the third one to hit the region this year, announced the NationalCentre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on July 31.
At 7am on July 31, the storm namedWipha was at 18.5 degrees north latitude and 113.5 degrees east longitude,about 230km northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, with windsnear its centre at 60-75km per hour and higher gusts.
In the next 24 hours, the storm isforecast to move mainly west-northwest at a speed of 15-20 km per hour. As of7am on August 1, it is expected to be located at 20.7 degrees north latitudeand 110.2 degrees east longitude, in the waters to the north of LeizhouPeninsula of China.
Due to the typhoon, strongthundershowers and rough sea are expected in the northern region of the EastSea, including waters around the Hoang Sa archipelago.
It is projected to hit watersoffshore Vietnam’s northern localities from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong on August 2and move west to weaken into a low tropical pressure.
Rains are expected in thedisaster-prone northern provinces of Hoa Binh and Phu Tho. The provinces areprojected to receive rainfall of more than 40mm in the next three hours, whichmay trigger floods and landslides.-VNA
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong has asked localities from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh to prepare for Typhoon Mun, the second arising in the East Sea that is forecast to make landfall on early July 4.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has sent a public dispatch to 28 northern and north-central provinces and centrally-run cities as well as relevant agencies urging them to get ready for the upcoming typhoon Mun.
Northern and central localities on July 4 were asked to stay ready to deal with possible heavy rains, flash flood and landslides, although typhoon Mun, the second arising in the East Sea so far this year, has weakened into a tropical depression.
