Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – Do Quoc Luat of theBorder Guards triumphed in the men’s 8,750m at the 45th Hanoi Moi (New Hanoi)newspaper run around Hoan Kiem Lake on September 30.
Luat’s teammates Trinh Quoc Luongand Bui The Anh finished second and third. Luat said he had been taking part in this eventsince 2008 and trained hard for his victory.
“This event is a warm up for me and otherprofessional athletes to compete at the National Sports Games later this year,”said Luat.
In the pro event for women over 5,250m, QuangNinh’s Pham Thi Hue beat Le Thi Thanh of Son La and Nguyen Thi My Thuongof Thai Binh to claim victory.
In the men’s 3,550m category forforeigners, Hugo Page of UNIS School won, followed by his teammates IestynRusinow and Jan Krubner.
Canada’s Page said he had taken part in the eventnine times and finished first four times. He confirmed that he would compete inthe event next year.
“With the theme of peace, this event ismeaningful as Hanoi is a peaceful city. The event was organised in a verybeautiful autumn day, attracting many children. Although it is a competition,participants are very friendly and glad,” said Page.
In the women’s 1,750m category forforeigners, Natalie Krubernova of UNIS School triumphed,followed by Anne M Havn of the Embassy of Norway and Tanya Lee - Parker of UNISSchool.
“This is the second time I have taken partin this event. I wasn’t well before but I tried my best to win. I like therunning around Hoan Kiem Lake. It’s nice and airy so I felt very comfortable,”said Krunerova of the Czech Republic.
The annual event attracted around 1,500 athletesfrom 20 cities and provinces, including 280 foreign runners from 26 embassiescompeting in the amateur and pro categories.
The event, which was sponsored by Hisamitsu VietnamPharmaceutical Company, was one of several activities held to mark the64th anniversary of Hanoi’s liberation and the 19th anniversaryof Hanoi being recognised as “The City for Peace” by UNESCO.-VNA
About 8,000 people will take part in the 45th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run for Peace, which will be held at the capital’s My Dinh National Stadium in Nam Tu Liem district on March 25.
As many as 800 amateur athletes, who are members of the Da Nang Young Businesspeople Association and staff of the Southeast Asia Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SeABank) participated in the “Run for the Future” held in the central city on August 19.
