Malaysia: CPI picks up for eighth consecutive months

Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) increased for the eighth consecutive month, by 2.2 percent in September compared to the same month last year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysia's consumer price index(CPI) increased for the eighth consecutive month, by 2.2 percent in Septembercompared to the same month last year, according to the Department of StatisticsMalaysia (DOSM).

According to DOSM, the transport group continued torecord a double-digit increase since March and edged up by 11 percent inSeptember as compared to a year ago.

The food and non-alcoholic beverages also climbed 1.9percent.

Meanwhile, furnishings, household equipment and routinehousehold maintenance increased 1.7 percent; housing, water, electricity, gasand other fuels rose 0.7 percent; recreation services and culture grew 0.6percent.

For the third quarter, the CPI rose 2.2 percent from ayear earlier.

Malaysia’s inflation is forecast to range between 2 – 3 percentthis year./.
