Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have agreed to continue expanding strategic cooperation in trade, investment, green transition, digitalisation, and defence, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the matter was discussed during a courtesy visit by the RoK President’s Special Envoy Kim Young Choon.
The PM welcomed the East Asian country’s intention to complete a bilateral free trade agreement and a memorandum of understanding in the defence sector between the two countries in October.
He also stressed that the RoK is now Malaysia’s eighth-largest trading partner, with total trade worth 23.94 billion USD last year.
PM Anwar said both parties also exchanged views on preparations for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Gyeongju, the RoK, from October 31 to November 1.
Malaysia supports the RoK’s leadership in this summit to drive a progressive and inclusive regional agenda, he said.

Malaysia and Brunei will hold the 26th Meeting on the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters (EOL) on July 23, a key platform for resolving bilateral issues and expanding cooperation.
