Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian police will beef up security for the upcoming 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said at a press briefing on November 14.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, affirmed that all relevant forces are well-prepared, and more manpower will be mobilized next week when the 27th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will take place in the Malaysian capital city from November 18-22.
At the events, leaders of ASEAN member countries will be joined by US President Barack Obama, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi, and the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon, the Minister said.
According to Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar, security measures have been reviewed to ensure safety for the Summit, and some 3,000 security officers are to be deployed during the occasion.
For his part, Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim said he is keeping a close watch on the development of the attacks in Paris and assured local residents that they will not affect the Summit and related meetings.
The Department will strengthen security at all relevant places from airports to the Summit’s venue as well as the surrounding, he pledged.-VNA
