Kuala Lumpur (VNA)✱ – Malaysia and Thailand have agreed to intensify cooperation to address several cross-border security issues in both nations during Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s two-day visit to Thailand.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister said during his visit on August 4-5, he and Thai leaders discussed cross-border crimes, anti-terrorism, border security, human trafficking and drug smuggling.
According to Hamidi, many Malaysian criminals sought hiding in Thailand while many terrorism-linked elements use Thailand as a transit to enter Malaysia or to travel from Malaysia to a third country.
Malaysia will strengthen border inspection by establishing a border inspection agency to replace its current anti-smuggling body, he said. The cooperation is part of the activities to implement their agreements under the Thailand – Malaysia Joint Border Committee formed in 2010.-VNA
