Malaysian Formula One eyes Vietnamese tourists

Malaysia expects at least 1,000 Vietnamese fans to attend its annual single-seater auto race by world-class racers in Kuala Lumpur from March 28-30.
Malaysia expects at least 1,000 Vietnamese fans to attend its annualsingle-seater auto race by world-class racers in Kuala Lumpur from March28-30.

The Formula One Grand Prix, which has been held for 15times since 1999, attracts hundreds of thousands of auto racing fansfrom around the world.

The 16th racing event, to be held atSepang International Circuit, 50km from Kuala Lumpur, will welcome over100,000 spectators.

It is expected to be the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia, according to organisers.

AhmadZaki Mohd Salleh, Director of Tourism Malaysia in Vietnam, said theone-seater racing contest would be one of many events and festivals tocelebrate Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The country is one of themost important sport tourism destinations in the Asia – Pacific region,he said, adding that Vietnam was the 15th ranked market for Malaysia'stourism industry.

"Vietnamese tourists are always looking fornew destinations as well as exciting events to attend and newexperiences. We hope that promotions offered by travel agents, withsupport of Tourism Malaysia, will attract many Vietnamese to book F1packages to experience F1 in Malaysia," he said.-VNA
