Hau Giang (VNA) - A solar power plantwas put into operation in Hau Giang province on March 12, the first of its kindin the Mekong Delta.

Covering 33 ha stretching Hoa An and Long Binhcommunes in Phung Hiep district and Vinh Tuong ward in Long My town, the plantreceived investment of 700 billion VND (30.3 million USD) from the HalcomVietnam JSC and Japan’s Shizen Energy Group.

It features 79,000 solar panels and is expected togenerate some 80 billion VND in annual revenue.

Chairman of Halcom Vietnam Nguyen Quang Huansaid the project is just the beginning of its long-term investment plan in HauGiang, adding that it marks the firm’s new successful step towards generating300-500MW of clean energy by 2025.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Nguyen Van Hoa said the project is useful for environmentalprotection and natural resources conservation and will contribute to jobcreation, higher budget revenues, and socio-economic development in theprovince.

Solar power development matches localsocio-economic development orientations for 2020-2025, he noted, while asking thatinvestors consider project expansion as well as investment in other solar powerprojects in Hau Giang./.
